How do I know if a collaborative law attorney is the right path for me?
The alternative methods of mediation and collaborative law can still be right for you even in complex and high conflict cases. It is not a prerequisite that you have a simple case, good communication or get along perfectly with the other spouse.
In the Collaborative process, all parties are agreeing at the outset to settle the divorce without contested court intervention - both sides are committing to cooperating in the process. This process may also include a neutral family specialist and financial specialist to work as a team to help the couple brainstorm and resolve all the settlement terms. This can help uncover some of the deeper root issues that would otherwise hold parties back from reaching an agreement and instead bring a new perspective to drive resolutions that benefit the family as a whole moving forward.
If you’re looking for a full team approach, that is committed to reaching a settlement without court intervention, this is certainly a strategy you would want to consider.
In what step of the divorce process is best for me to meet with a collaborative law attorney and why?
At the very start, perhaps even before you have discussed it with your spouse, and certainly before you have been served with papers, because then you can be empowered with the real information you need to find the right process for you and your family, to understand your options, and then even receive the help with introducing the idea to your spouse.
Often times we can help provide a list of other true collaborative law attorney professionals in the area so that your spouse can explore which one might be the best fit for them as well so you ensure you each get a true collaborative experience.
Whether I'm a breadwinner or a stay-at-home mom, what value will I get out of working with you?
The mediation and collaborative processes eliminate waste. They are the best use of your hard earned money because every minute that you are billed for is used to find practical solutions that are tailor-made for your family, not a one-size-fits-all, cookie-cutter template that is useless to you moving forward.
How do I afford this if I am a stay-at-home mom or don't have access to the finances?
There are more affordable, stream-lined versions of both mediation and collaborative that may be available to you, but in all instances we do require a retainer fee upfront. The consultation, however, is always free for members of this community, so there is no reason not to make the call and empower yourself with the information about your options.
