FAQ
EMILY R COUNSELING
How do I know if a therapist is the right path for me?
Finding the right therapist is a challenge. Sometimes you luck out and get a good fit right away and sometimes it takes some shopping around. While there are several practical aspects to keep in mind, like your budget, schedule, and preference for virtual vs in-person sessions, what I've found to be the most meaningful determination for my clients is personality fit. Every therapist is different! You want someone who you "vibe" with, someone you don't feel judged or intimidated by, and someone who inspires confidence in their ability to navigate challenges with you.
In what step of the divorce process is best for me to meet with a therapist and why?
This is definitely up to you! Having someone you trust in your corner can be very helpful early on in the divorce or separation process. Even before making the decision to separate or divorce, having a therapist to talk through your emotions, thoughts, and experiences can help you make a more confident decision and prepare you for the emotional process of separation and divorce. That being said, it's never too late in the process to seek mental health support. Whether it's a new thought or you are years past divorce, having someone to help you navigate this transition is invaluable.
Whether I'm a breadwinner or a stay-at-home mom, what value will I get out of working with you?
No matter if your work is inside or outside the home, you are a valuable person who deserves to have someone helping you find joy and peace. Mental health support will help you optimize your wellbeing and give you the skills to navigate life's challenges with confidence. Working with me will result in you stepping forth with a renewed (or new) sense of self-assuredness.
How do I afford this if I am a stay-at-home mom or don't have access to the finances?
While I am not currently in network with any insurance provider, I do offer a limited number of reduced rate spots for clients in financial distress. I can also work with you to advocate for yourself with your lawyer to include access to financial support as you navigate separation and divorce.
